Me? You Want To Talk To Me?

So this past week I had received an interview to do for a site. I've done interviews before. Many interviews.

As I sat looking over the questions I couldn't help but wonder. Why do people want to know about me?
Yeah I'm an author and write sexy books, but why me?
I have never been one to talk a lot about myself. I actually find it hard to tell people about me. Why? I wish I knew. I never know what to tell people about myself especially in interviews.

Plus when you do interviews, no matter how many, the questions do repeat. I always wonder, do people actually like to read interviews about authors?

Do they really care how they create their books?

I for one love to read interviews. It gives me a look at the author and how they create. Interviews reveal the little bits of the birth of a story or even about the creator themselves.

Interviews are also a bit of a lesson in some ways for new writers who are trying to find out more about the world of fiction. It can be nerve wrecking to dive into the industry and depending on the interview one can learn a lot from it.

So tell me, do you as an author like doing interview? Hate them?
As a reader, do you enjoy reading author interviews? Do you hate them?

stay naughty,
Savannah

  1. I read some interviews, but I prefer the shorter ones. Say about six questions. I never mind answering interview questions. I like when authors give good answers instead of answering in about three words.

    1. Shelley, Oh you are not alone..The three words is not good. I do like the shorter ones as well. I always tell people to pick a few questions for my feature but it seems they like to answer it all. I don't mind as long as readers get to know the person a little more.

  2. I enjoy interviews, particularly about authors I'm just getting to know. What I don't particularly enjoy reading about is the writing process (are you a plotter or a pantser, do you write to music or not). The answers I read don't differ much from author to author and I feel like I'm reading the same interview over and over again. I think that readers don't care how the writer writes. Readers are more interested in the author...who are you when you're not writing?

    1. Cara, you are right..I think they want a little closer look at the person and who they are. We all write the same. We might have a different routine but nothing changes. Thank you so much for stopping over.

  3. I love to read more about authors I enjoy reading. I think it gives me a little insight as to what kind of person they are and how that translates into their writing.

    1. Kissa, you are right. When you get a little peak into the real person it is special.

  4. I enjoy reading about authors as well. But like Shelly said, six questions are sufficient. :) Authors have so much to say, their wirting journeys and anything else that makes me feel connected to them.

    1. Cecilia, the little things make a difference. It brings you into their world and you get to see who they are.

  5. Hi Savannah! As an author, I like doing/reading interviews. It shows us the fun inner workings of that author. I like them to be a little silly, a little informative and all fun.

    1. Rosanna, when you can be fun and silly it shows you are real. That is what readers want to see.

  6. Hi Savannah!
I like reading interviews, but like most, it's the shorter ones I like best. Reading different interviews of the same author can give you different information about them. Well, usually, unless they get stuck answering the same questions from one interview to another.

I THINK I like doing interviews. I get excited about them, but as soon as I have the questions in front of me, I never know what to say and I agonize over the answers. Go figure.

    1. Casey, you sound like me..I get stuck because I don't know what people want to know ro what I should say. Variety is what is needed in and interview.

  7. Hi Savannah. I actually really enjoy reading author interviews. It's nice to get to know the author better especially if I really love their books. I also like thinking up questions for authors when I host on interview on my site. Of course, I still use the generic questions, but I try to be creative and throw in a few off the wall ones that might be more personalized for the specific author. Seems fun to me. :)
And as for not knowing what to say to much, make up your on answers. :) We are talking about fiction after all.

    1. Melissa, thank you for taking the time to stop on over. I like the way you do the interviews, off ones are the ones that keep you on your toes. LOL..Yeah I might have to try a few crazy answers to see how that goes...

  8. I love doing interviews on my blog - I try to make them fun and quirky...I had this series of 'When (author) was like a virgin...' They are interviews that people seemed to like--discussing the author's first trials on a book - whether that was the author's first release...first m/m...first menage...any virgin endeavor worked...and come to think of it...hmmmm...I haven't had you yet Savannah...call me? *winks*

  9. I like doing interviews, but I agree that sometimes they can get redundant. I don't necessarily think my readers care about what music I listen to while writing, but they usually get a kick out of what's in my fridge, or what my favorite guilty pleasure is. (BTW Diet Dr Pepper in the fridge, and Sea salt caramels make me melt!)
I think my fav type of interview is a character interview instead. I'm here because of my characters, so I want to tell you more about them instead of me.

    1. Lorikingbooks, I think you are right. Sometimes we need to toss in the off beat questions and stuff you don't see. I've done a few character interviews and loved them.

  10. I love authors interviews. I love to read about the author, books and their writing process. I'm okay in giving interviews. I think that in general people are curious and they want to know something about you, what makes you tick.

  11. i love interviews, and have done one on my blog almost every Friday for close to 2 years. Great way to know more about authors, and though I do have 18 questions, they are always the same and most people will probably read just a few answers, but for those who want to know more --- there is the option,

  12. I wish- I wish- I have done a number cookie cutter interviews for bloggers. Most of them consist of me struggling to give interesting answers to questions like 'what is your favourite colour?'
I have suggested to a couple of bloggers that they might like to ask real questions by email, one at a time, so we can have a back & forth conversation. I'm sure that would be much more interesting because none of us, readers included, would know which way the chat will go. No takers yet, but I'm game...

  13. I love interviews, if the questions are personal. I'm not a big fan of the standard form interview. I'm also more inclined to read an interview if it looks like the host is excited about the person they are interviewing. Yes, I like fan-ish squeeing. :)
