We as authors tend to search for some weird things at times for our stories. I've searched for info on planes to the type of rope to use that will not burn in a fire for a murder scene I was working on. I laugh that if anyone were to ever go through my search history they would probably freak out.
Research is a part of our writing process..We write everything and sometimes we write about things we have no clue about..Like for example I have no idea about planes or how they work..Or models..
I've searched for so many things including poisons and murder weapons, looked at crime scenes for reference. Can't forget making sure certain sexual positions are anatomically possible. Hey in my mind they are but one must make sure so my editor doesn't tell me it is not even close to being possible.
I'm not saying all research is so fun, interesting or pretty but it is always cool to learn something new along the way.
Lately I've been jumping the genre spectrum to the max. I'm doing contemporary, suspense and sci-fi all at once..I'm working on five books together..Each day I work on a little of one and then swap to another..I have been rotating them during the week to get them all done. So my research and Googling has been all over the map. This week I'm looking at fight techniques and self defense moves.
So tell me if I were to ever go through your searches on your pc what are some of the weird or even funny things I might find?
As always remember to join me on Facebook and my Official Site for all the latest news.
stay naughty,
Savannah

You Searched For What?

My searches have included sex toys, spanking implements, info on automobiles, house styles, flowers, the topography of a certain area, shoes styles, sample wedding vows, recipes, cocktails....quite varied. There's a lot of minor research and fact checking that goes into each book.
ReplyDeleteHow DID we do all this BEFORE the internet?
Cara, I love your searches...They seem similar to mine...I've forgotten half the things I've searched for. I wonder what we did before technology? I think we just went to the source or tried stuff on our own to see what the results would be..
DeleteHow a mortician prepares a body. How to build a sex room. It's really amazing we're not all on FBI watchlists...lol
ReplyDeleteVirg, love your searches...I have looked up the mortician stuff when I knew a few of them and was interested how it all works. LOL..we probably are...
DeleteMy searches tend to mirror those already mentioned. The mind boggling thing is that all the information is readily available on the net.
ReplyDeleteShelley, yes you are right..What we need to know is there in a matter of seconds..
DeleteI don't even have the excuse of being an author...I tend to look up things from the books that I am reading or proofreading or sometimes from the word games that I am playing!
ReplyDeleteElf2060, must be some fun stuff you look up...
DeleteMy search history currently has: human eye balls, animal eye balls, contacts, torture, human body fight or flight instinct, city/town development, line of sight, car parts, weapons, god, angels, demons, theology, mythology, biblical history, historic timelines, linguistics, branding, weather anomalies, dimensions, a few other things lol
ReplyDeleteKrissy, love your search history. Esp the lol on the few other things...
DeleteGreat post! Yeah, hubs and I are hoping we're not on some list, too. We were searching for information about night time high powered video cameras for a WIP and had to very carefully back out of a highly classified page we'd landed on. Wrote the camera into the book successfully, though!
ReplyDeleteAdriana
Adriana, thank you..Yeah I would not even touch the classified pages..Well I probably would not know even that they are classified unless it said so...
DeleteI do search on some crazy stuff and it always makes me giggle. I just hope those computers compiling all the tidbits about us are smart enough to make the top note be: writer+crazy imagination = ignore search content. But you know Savannah, I think you might have stumbled onto a fun plot bunny ;)
ReplyDeleteS.J, you know I always stumble onto the good stuff..LOL..I can turn anything into fun and a story...
DeleteGreat subject, Savannah! I actually had to research how to land a plane during a blizzard on an abandoned highway for my latest Honeybun suspense book. That was exhausting, let me tell you! But I often think about what the FBI would think of my searches. Guns, knives, poisons, terrorists... I'm surprised I haven't been hauled off to jail yet! LOL
ReplyDeleteSam, thank you for taking the time to stop over. I think they would have to take in all of us since we search all this stuff. I think they probably know we all write and this is not some crazy person...
