WHY ARE INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIPS STILL CONTROVERSIAL?

CASSANDRE DAYNE

Isn’t that a good question? And does that matter in writing romance novels? Well, the truth is I’ve seen some continued concern but for the most part I do believe it’s embraced with all the passion of writing anything else. After all, who cares about the color of our heroes as long as they have some enduring qualities that remind us why we love to read romances in the first place. I’ve been asked on several occasions why I enjoy writing interracial romances and the truth is I think I’m color blind in all aspects of people including relationships. I don’t care if the men I crave are black, white or purple. Sensuality and desire come in many forms and in truth I love black men. I think they are sassy and sexy and…but then again I have a craving for American Indians and Puerto Ricans too so. Hey – I can’t help myself and it has nothing to do with being an erotic romance author. Is it because of my upbringing and the fact I was taught never to be prejudice?

In truth I think it’s a little bit of both. I enjoy all flavors, sizes and shapes of men. Let’s face it -- I simply love men! I also don’t mind sending a message that whether you’re involved with someone from another race or of the same sex, love is love and passion ignites from where your heart takes you. I personally hate discrimination and do everything that I can to educate others in my writing about equality. I’ve been very blessed to have written several interracial romances over the last year or so. Even my very first piece published was about my real life UPS man who happens to be chocolate laced in variety. He’s also simply a wonderful guy and fun to talk to.

I penned a piece that combines three of my enjoyments – interracial, same sex including a polyamory situation and BDSM. What could be better? Throw in aspects of a Knight in Shining armor who has a terrible secret and I’m hooked. What I think endures us probably to the characters in the stories are some flaw they have along with those hidden secrets. We all have lives that hide something or that we’re worried about and sometimes that can be based on certain biases we had to endure during our experiences with love, family, friends and our work relationships. Doesn’t that sound like a delicious read to you and do you see color in the aspect of the book? You shouldn’t, but that’s just my opinion.

I guess trying to figure out why is really not the question any longer. The truth is that the perception is there, whether we like it or not. I hate every aspect of the concept as I talk about and see love as love, but I guess we’ll always have narrow minded people in this world. I’ve actually been judged and had friends judged on this very concept and I’m not going to get on my soapbox other than to say, I think you really need to understand that if you believe in God, he did put us on this earth to love, not hate. At least that’s what my religious friends tell me anyway.

I had posed this kind of question on Facebook not too long ago and received some very interesting comments and then one poor girl private messaged me to say she received real CRAP from people who didn’t like her comments. Do you not have a hobby people or a job? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just don’t try and stop me or shove your beliefs down my throat. I don’t personally take that very well.

I’m saddened because you continue to see things in the newspaper and on line about hate crimes – not just based on color of course but sexual preference and religious beliefs too and I for one stand back and go – WTF? What is freaking wrong with people? I have my views. Trust me. Because I’ve realized that there are so many people who continue to have issues with interracial romances, especially a black man and a white woman, I’ve actually thought about not penning them any longer. That’s another WTF moment for me. If I do that then the naysayers win and I hate winners who do based on sheer stupidity. I enjoy writing them and I enjoy reading them and I plan on continuing. What do you think? I would love to hear your viewpoint on this. Do you believe love is love no matter what color or do you think races should stay with their own – what I’ve heard coined later “kind”. God, that alone makes me shiver. I didn’t know we looked different inside. Let me know your thoughts… Decided to be just a bit BraZen this morning.

How Sexy Is Too Sexy?

Isn't that a sexy little question? It's Cassandre Dayne and I've been having some frank conversations with other writers about all the sexy and rather sensuous posts we do on blogs - our own, our fan pages, other guest blogging etc. We try as erotic romance writers to bring attention to ourselves and one way is to be a little sexy, perhaps stretch the boundaries. But how much is too much? I know the term braZen means to some maybe REALLY out there but can we push too hard and turn people off? Hmm... I think we can. How do I know that?

Well, we all know the Facebook police exist but not just with the sometimes worthless ways the "staff" handle complaints who do work for Facebook. Let's face it -- they can't check everything out. They react. So I can only get but so angry with them. However there are groups of people on FB that actually target artists and writers with pictures - even ones they simply have buried in a group of photos. Yes, you've heard me say before how much that pisses me off, but you honestly have to think... Being a published author is indeed about reputation. For those who know me really get that I push hard back against the backlash of what I call STUPID.

But there again - I have to be careful. I call myself the wicked girl and a couple of dear friends of mine finally said - STOP. You play at that but the girl inside is different. True. I post pictures and HOT HOT HOT flashes and continue to have folks as (especially men) do I do all the wild and wooly things I write about?  Ummm.... NO. Do I do some? Only people REALLY close to me will ever hear the fine details. LOL  But this is about posting pictures and writing. I'm learning that what offends me isn't what offends others - to each their own. Granted - sick to DEATH of the lack of tolerance but we as authors do have to be careful. I'll post a few pics and you tell me if they are too much.

I love writing sexy and I love posting sexy pictures and that's not going to stop. I do think tempering what we post to encourage more readers is the way to go. I'll be the very first person to stand up and say  - patience and tolerance or you're out of my life but... To each their own. Tell me your thoughts...

What's Not To Love About Hot Men...

And even hotter sex, right?  Now tell me what's not to love about the sexy and steamy guys you are seeing below here? Come on ladies and gents - you know you like them all sexy and dirty and gritty and grimy and in turn you love to see them work hard? Then again - don't you love to see them play harder as well? You know what I mean. You want them to give YOU all they have in and out of bed or and sexy and steamy stories too...  Purr babies...

It's Cassandre Dayne and I wanted to bring you a few yummy looking men to day for your consideration before you delve into my HOT worlds of steamy sex. For those of you who don't know, I write highly erotic and usually extremely kinky books. Now, I do write het pieces including about cowboys and even creatures of the night BUT I love writing about m/m more. YUMMY. I also tend to write a lot about our everyday heroes including firemen, policemen and even the coast guard. Currently I am in mid stream writing about cops from several aspects, musicians, a rough and tumble cowboy and I even have a roughneck story - for those of you who don't know that's all about the oil pipeline work - in my little toy box of tails.

So what makes a HOT and spicy man in my books? Well they don't ALL have to be sexy and good looking - well, most of the time. I also love my men in all flavors and yes I really do. I admit the creamier and darker the lickable areas I tend to hunger a bit more and think that writing and sharing interracial pieces is very sizzling and tasty indeed. I do love them tall and hunky and muscular but then again, I truly like my bad boys more than anything.

Just what is a bad boy? Again, I think down and dirty cops are hot and firemen with the soot covering their face is especially dreamy. I also do love the cowboy look where they've been wrangling horses for a few days on the range and they have that sweat and very testosterone filled look about them too. Then again there's nothing like a rescue diver - all wet and steamy... Now my juices are flowing for another sexy story. Trust me too, I can write a story about any kind of guy.

But the truly bad boys to me are more than just a little bit rough around the edges. They ride motorcycles and drive hot sports cars, they might be criminals like a member of the mafia and they kill and maim for a living. They could be just your regular scheming guy - you know the type - he's all out for himself at every turn. Mix it up with a sexy boxer perhaps or a football player who snarls for a living and lordy you have a recipe for a sexy story.

We like to see our guys fall and fail and dust themselves off and get right back up. Don't we guys? They act like jerks and yet love with a passion we normally don't experience. We want the hard guy with the edge on the outside and the soft and gooey in the middle. NOW I'm getting all hot and bothered. So... in the next few months you're going to see lots of sexy guys coming from me. I just hope you can take the heat...
