Stuck in Porn Mode

Photo © Bobby Flowers | Dreamstime.com
The other day I was talking to this girl I just met. I decided to do some volunteer work at my school and in doing that I have to work with international students from around the world. Seeing that I write Interracial erotica, I figured that's some story ideas right there.  Anyways, I met this girl and she asked me about me. After blushing and trying to come up with something the coolest thing I could think of to say was I write romance. She asked what kind? I said, "the naughty kind". It was her turn to blush then she asked me the same question everyone's been asking me since I started writing Erotica, "Isn't that porn?"

I stared at her, blinking blankly before shaking my head defiantely and saying emphatically, 'No. Porn is the pizza man coming over and you have no money to pay him (or pretend to have no money to pay him) and asking to see his sausage you jump him' I don't write that crap. Sorry. I write hot stories with PLOT. I write stories that have a little something else because I really dislike reading about two people having sex. The truth is if that was what I wanted I could just go to a porn site and sit back with a bag of popcorn and a beer.

But then it got me thinking, similiar to the fact I walked away thinking this girlw as "stuck on stupid" there are a few authors who are stuck in porn. I read quite a lot of erotica. Not to get ideas but just to see what else is out there other than me and to get a feel for people, especially the authors of publishing houses I'd like to submit to at point and I have to say for the most part I was impressed but there are some that just says porn from page one. I deal in reality for the most part and you can't just meet someone today and by tonight you're humping his leg and screaming his name. I mean, who does that? I mean you can but what does that say about you? Those are called one night stands and really, in a book that causes youto escape reality? Why do one night stands when you can have it all?

I remember reading this one book where the first chapter was a sex scene and it goes sex, sex, sex and I remember skimming through the rest of the book, praying there was some plot. If she'd added in a little something extra that book could have been SO much better. I remember being disappointed because it was too much sex and not enough to make me feel as if I was escaping. It was as if she was slapping me in the face with sex (sorry bad mental image there).

All I'm saying is Erotica is so much different than porn. Erotica is sensual. It's being dirty with your man and loving it. It is not just meeting some strange guy and dragging him behind a building. That is porn--and not the good kind.

So......um.....I'm changing history

A few weeks ago, while I was neck deep into writing my first BDSM (well light BDSM) story (Aint Too Proud to Beg) I got this magical idea to write something I've always wanted to write. An interracial, Regency, erotic novel.  What's the problem you might ask? Well, I wanted the female to be African American, the Male to be white and I wanted it to take place in a country where Kings roam and knights were aplenty. Lemme break it down for you.

During Regency time blacks were not royal and every turn I take, people keep reminding me of that.  I am not a huge fan of slavery. To be frank I went to school in Jamaica and they drilled that topic into my brain over and over the might as well have cut my head open and shoved it in.  When I moved to Canada they force fed it to me again and again with my parents forcing me at 14 to read Uncle Tom's Cabin.  So, needless to say, it happened, it was horrible and I am hoping we learned from it so now lets move on. I don't want my novel to dwell on that.

At one point I was thinking, well shit. Scrapping that idea. But now that I finish writing Aint Too Proud to Beg, I am itching for something else to make me want to rip my hair out.

So, I'm changing history.

I am making up my own and to hell with the consequences.

Why am I doing this? *shrugs* Probably I've been overtaken by madness. Who knows? I'm probably as mad as a hatter. Or maybe I just think we all need our own fairy tales of prince charming and Cinderrealla. I'm not being the R word but the African American Culture has only one fairy tale that I know of and that's the really stupid Princess and the Frog where the princess was African American for about 5 minutes in the movie then a frog for the rest then 5 minutes at the end of the movie. *sigh* so I'm writing one--burn all the nay sayers and drama-bringers.

I've come up with a story titled CLAIMED. (That's a working title for now).  It will have a touch of BDSM in it (hence the title), and be very sexy. I haven't quite written the blurb yet and I'm still looking for a country to set it in (maybe I will create my own) but it's a WIP. Whatever publishing house gets this tale will have to explain to the CA why they chose this book lol but bring it on. If I have to self publish it, it will happen.

So, I should get to work--right? Hrm.....Anyone got any suggestions for countries I could use?

Morning Wood

Happy Monday!

I now have the task of making your morning, week, day which ever bad one you're having. Anyways, today I'm here to talk to you about morning wood. You know, men waking up in the morning with a friendly little reminder that they are still men. Fine, I'll say it, a hard on. I see this in movies all the time and some guys I know complain about it too but is it real?

Well yes, woods are real but is the fact that they always wake up with one real?  Is it normal? Wait, I was watching this show called "STRANGE SEX" on TLC...yes they have a show called STRANGE SEX on TLC. I swear am not making this up! And there was this guy who says he can have multiple orgasms...I'm not talking about having one, then wait an hour and go again...am talking having one, then build up and go again and again and again and good l0rd I'm exhausted just thinking about it.  His poor wife have taken up to working out just so she can keep up with him and even then she's still contemplating giving up.  He said it was from years of being a virgin because he lost his virginity at 21 years old to his wife. Anyways, whole other topic that one. Back to Morning wood--I love saying Morning wood...lol.

What brought this up? (morning wood I mean)

So on Friday I was at school and the professor sent us on a break for ten minutes. Our classes are two and a half hours long so we get a short break in between.  I was sitting with a bunch of guys who found it utterly fascinating that I wrote erotica and had a whole slew of questions from where do I get my motivation to can they be my motivation. Of course there were a couple that I would let be whatever motivation they wanted and a couple who I would rather poke my eyes out with hot pokers first. But that's neither here nor there.

The conversation went to morning arousal.

One guy, a rather sexy Russian, asked if I ever gave my guys morning wood. At first I sat there, blinking at him thinking "huh?" I guess he saw my confusion then he said, and I quote "has any of your characters ever woke up in the morning and tackled the female?" I burst out laughing and said "oooOooo you mean a hard on in the morning!"

He blushed--so cute bee-tee-dub--and nodded.

That had me thinking. I don't think I've ever given my characters morning wood--as he so delicately put it--I think I did that once in Panty Droppers 2: Shakin' it for Daddy. But other than that I never really wrote it in--I guess it was never called for...how strange.... Anyways, I told him I would use him as my next hottie in my next story and he was very happy--said he wanted a copy of the book as soon as it is released.  I think I just may do that...write a story about him having morning wood *grins*

The Age of the "Gentleman"

Hi all!

It is *looks at calendar* Monday again! Hope your day is going amazingly or depending on what time you read this, has gone amazingly. Today, I'm going to talk about the Age of the "Gentleman".

What do I mean by this? I often times watch older men--men who grew up during the crazy sixties or the insane seventies or even as far back as the times our grand parents grow up in and they are Gentlemen. Not gentle as in, soft, and mouse-ie. But real men. Men who opens the door for a woman, who would get up on the bus and give a woman his seat or at least ask if she wished to sit down--the men who believes in "women and children first" during SAFE situations.

I realized the other day as I sat on the bus that these days are so dead.

I was sitting in the back and normally the front six seats are facing each other so it is easier to lift for a wheelchair or persons in a scooter or that kind of thing. They are labled PRIORITY SEATING and it also says "you may be asked to vacate these seats for a disabled person or a senior." It says it!  Anywho, I'm sitting in the back,  headphones on as usual, listening to some tunes and just people watching. The guys come in and the young ones rush to the back--the ones in high school and the like. But the guys from the college I go to, come in and they sit in the Priority Seating.
Image from "Shame2Dame"
If there's no one there to sit there fine but when we got two stops later and an older woman got on the bus, she looked to be in her seventies, you would expect these young men to get up and allow her the seat.  Why did the bus driver have to stop the bus get up and yell at them before they even get up?

How sad is that?  They are young, presumably intelligent so there was no reason for them not to know that a woman getting on the bus, at that age probably needed the seat more than they did. I never understood how grown men could at like such fools sometimes.

My parents expects me to picka husband from these fools?

How does this correlate to romance and erotica? Simple.

I write men who are no fools. They are sometimes hurt but never in a million years would any of my men not get up and offerh is seat.  They aren't perfect--not by any stretch of the word, they have their idiot moments or their brain-fart moments but they always give due consideration to the welfare of women and children. Not that I'm saying women can't do for themselves, we totally can! It's just sometimes, especialyl if you're single, try and be nice to us. Because as they say, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I heard a while ago someone was bashing the men in romance novels as too sweet. But seriously, we're writing manuals for these men of what we want in them and men are pushing the books away as "gay" or "not manly"

A F/F Lick...

Terry stared at Eli across the top of the small freezer.  They'd pulled it from the wall to see if Terry's cellphone had fallen behind. Eli did not look happy. She stood with her hands rested on her hips, her brown eyes blazing and her lips set in a determined line.

"You don't understand!" Eli shook her head. "You've never understood. You go around trying to save the damn world all the time. What about me?"

"What about you? I'm here, aren't I?"

"Ugh! You make me so mad! You are so damn blind."

Terry pushed some air out the mouth and took a deep breath. "I don't know what else you want from me."

Eli reached over across the freezer, grabbed Terry by the front of the shirt and tugged.  With a yelp, Terry fell on the top of the freezer but didn't have time to argue for Eli's mouth was over hers and their tongues were already struggling for supremacy.  Shock turned to pure joy which morphed into passion and a wild urge to dominate.  Terry pulled away and pressed her back into the wall, eyeing Eli.

"What the hell?" Terry panted.

"Now do you see, Ter? Now do you see what I really want from you?"

"I'm no good in a relationship right now, Eli. I can't..."

"Who said I wanted a relationship? All I want is a good fuck--obviously you're not willing."

"But..." Terry's eyes bulged.

"What? You're not up for it? Tell me now, Terry," Eli said while stalking around one side of the freezer.

Terry hurried around the other side. She felt stalked, and turned on.

"Tell me you don't want to feel these tits in your hands, my hot, wet pussy on your tongue."

"Oh shit, Eli...." Terry gasped.

Napoleon, Caligula and Count Dracula Walked into a Bar....

Hello All! It's Monday again and even though I wanted to start off your week on a happy note, I couldn't think of anything THAT happy so I figured giving some tips about research.

If you're like me (omg! I sound like one of those late night info-mercials!) and you LOVE using exotic locations in your books--so far I've hit Jamaica and Japan like they owed me child support and used them extensively. Jamaica, I know. Japan, well that's something comepletely different. I spent hours, pouring through enclycopedias, websites, phoning my friends just to get the little language, landmarks and food I used in For the Love of Rei. Now imagine if you have something way more detailed?

Here are some tips:

  1. Figure out your story idea--write the blurb if you have to.
  2. Read an overall information piece about the idea you need to research.
  3. Read a bunch of books. The internet is a great place, but most of the info cannot be trusted. So read other things and compare. If it sounds hinky, chances are it is. Make sure the info mesh and jive.
  4. Go to the library and ask the libriain. Don't feel bad if he/she pouts and throws a tantrum. They are paid to help you.
  5. Go to the source. Writing a book about firefighters (its the first one that came into my mind) visit a fire station. Call them up and ask if you can sit down with them.
  6. Use a pen and notepad (gasp!) Yes, I said pen and notepad. Why? You can write things down and ensure you understand it all.
  7. Make sure you cite information if you use them word for word in your books. Be very Careful here.
  8. If you can't find information to reinforce your research topic, drop it and find another idea until you can find information to reinforce your info.

Here is hoping that helps. If you have questions, comment under this blog!
